Are you interested in farming? Have you ever wondered what working on a real farm would be like? If the answer to either of these questions is yes then there is an opportunity for you!

PrairiErth Farm in Atlanta, Illinois is currently seeking apprentices to learn the day-to-day operations of the farm.  Candidates should be available full time and willing work for the length of the entire growing season (Mid March – the week before Thanksgiving).  They are also looking for apprentices who may be interested in a longer term position following the completion of their apprenticeship.  The focus of this apprenticeship will be on vegetable production.

Various duties included with this position are starting plants from seed and transplanting seedlings into the field, preparation and maintenance of fields including tilling, irrigation, weeding, trellising, and mulching.  Harvesting, cleaning, packing, and delivering produce for our CSA, wholesale customers, and farmers markets are also among the various duties that an apprentice will handle.

PrairiErth Farm is looking for self-motivated candidates with a strong work ethic, a desire to learn and are willing to take initiative. Experience growing vegetables is a plus but not required.

PrairiErth Farm has an 80 member CSA. They also sell at the Downtown Bloomington Farmer’s Market, a grocery cooperative, and restaurants. There are opportunities to gain experience with livestock and row crops as well, but they are not a part of the day to day activities.
