Local Calendar 8/30/12 Enjoy the Last Days of Summer!!

August 30, 2012 at 1:10 pm

One of the benefits at working at a farm stand is the early rays of the sun in the morning, the Little Prince was right about the beauty of sunrise and sunset. I was lucky to work for Kinnikinnick Farm this past Wednesday so had a different view of the Green City Market. Their tables were full of heirloom tomatoes, Black Russians, Kellogg’s Breakfast, Early Girls and the beautiful Gold Medals(pictured above) that were at their peak of ripeness. Wednesday was a great day to be outside, the market was busy and I have to say, the cantaloupe soda from Seasons Soda was incredible, really light, refreshing and thirst quenching. Wednesday was a great day!! If you missed it, Vince Gerasole from CBS Chicago filmed a live segment with Peter Klein from Seedling Farm here at the Green City Market pretty darn early on Wednesday!

The Green City Market Locavore Challenge 2012 runs Saturday 9/8/12 through Sunday 9/15/12. The market will be offering all sorts of programs and events to be supportive of your efforts, sign the pledge and get more information here.

Lots to do this Labor Day weekend, including the Check Please! Farm To Table Fest, Sunday, in Baroda, MI that will include many Chicago farm to table chefs. More Farm Dinners have popped up on the calendar, so there is a lot to check out below!! You can sign up for a Fall CSA, here is our CSA guide compiled by Beet Associate Editor Wendy Aeschlimann. Green Grocer’s Fall Produce Shares run 9/11 through 12/22. What to buy and where to buy local, Chief Beet Rob Gardner is on top of it all here.
