Are you able to get away from Chicago for one or two nights in the next week or two? Chris & Mari Reijmerink of Kismet Farm & Bakery in Glenn, Michigan, have a need for a crop mob – a group of people who volunteer to work on the farm. Do hand-planting during the day, and sleep under the stars at night one mile off of Lake Michigan.

All you have to do is arrive before noon in the morning (you pick the day), bring a tent and your work gear . . . and stay for one night or two. You’ll help plant organic heirloom tomatoes, melons, cucumbers, and pumpkins. While there, you can learn about their chickens, or check out their new wood burning bakery oven, barn, grey water system, integrated pest management, and organic spray applications. The farmers at Kismet have farmed internationally for ten years.

Kismet Farm will provide home cooked meals for their crop mob. Be prepared to work long days, as it stays light in Michigan until 9:30 pm these days. Glenn, Michigan is about 2.5 hours from Chicago.
