Another Opportunity To “Tweet & Taste” Local Wine: Sparkling Wine With Black Star Farms On 11/16, 6:30 pm CST

November 3, 2010 at 1:43 pm

Michigan wines are taking full advantage of the interspaces to get out word about their wines.  “Tweet and Taste” events have been a popular way for winemakers from burgeoning wine regions to get wine lovers to discuss their wines over the internet.  What is a Tweet and Taste?  It’s easy.  You buy the wine in advance (usually over the internet, directly from the winery).  On an appointed day and time, you log onto Twitter, and discuss the wine by attaching a designated hashtag (#____) to your wine tweets, and everyone following the hashtag can participate or follow along.

I’ve participated in many Tweet and Tastes, and it’s great way to interact with fellow regional wine afficionados from across the country, and many times, the wineries themselves, which are almost always grateful for the candid feedback about their wines.

The latest Tweet and Taste involves upper Michigan agricultural powerhouse, Black Star Farms.  Black Star Farms is releasing two new sparkling wines, 2009 “Be Dazzled,” and 2010 “Bubbly Nouveau.”  As sparkling wine factors so greatly (for many of us) in holiday celebrations, this is a great opportunity to try these wines, and discuss them online in advance of planning for your holidays.  Both Be Dazzled and Bubbly Nouveau were released with the intent of bringing reasonably priced, quality sparkling wines to market.

Winemaker Lee Lutes will be online as well to discuss and answer questions about these two wines.  Be Dazzled incorporates both Brut and Demi-Sec styles, and Bubbly Nouveau is an “appetizer-style” sparkling wine that leans toward the fruity side.

The event will begin at 6:30 pm CST on November 16th and will last approximately 1 hour with a half hour to discuss each wine.   For those wishing to participate, Black Star Farms can be found on Twitter @bstar2009.   Black Star Farms asks that participants log on at least five minutes prior to the start time and that each person use the hashtag  #bsfbubbly.

After the second week of November both wines will be for sale for $12.50 at all three Black Star Farms’ locations. Both wines can be purchased for the tasting for a reasonable $20. Wines can be shipped to Illinois as well as various other states.
