A few local beery events:

This weekend:

June 4 & 5, 6:30 – 10:30 pm, plus a session Saturday 1 – 5 pm

BeerHoptacular will feature samplings of 200+ beers from around the word (but with an emphasis on local beers), plus beermaking demonstrations. It’s at the historic Aragon ballroom, conveniently located a short stumble from the Lawrence stop on the CTA’s Red Line (don’t drink and drive). Tickets start at $45.

Next weekend:

June 12, noon – 11 pm

Hop Juice Fest will be a Dark Lord Day-type festival at Two Brothers Brewery in Warrenville, one of the best breweries in the Chicago area. In addition to Two Brothers’ great beers, there will be an impressive lineup of guest beers from around the country, and an eclectic selection of bands playing all day.

VIP tickets are $60 each, but offer many benefits, including guaranteed admission even if general admission is sold out. But VIP tickets are nearly sold out too, and may be gone by the time you read this.

Of course, for less money, you could sample many comparably good beers simply by visiting any of the area’s best beer bars, including the Hopleaf, the Map Room, or Quenchers. But you’re paying a little more for the music, demonstrations, and camaraderie at the events. And isn’t camaraderie one of the best things about drinking beer?
