Local apples, yesiree! Hillside Orchard still has beautiful Honeycrisps and others at Green City Market, and can usually be found at the Maple Syrup Festival (Mar. 20-21), too. Hardin Orchard was down to their last crate of the season by the end of the market at St. Giles last Sunday, so they'll probably be laying low until the markets start in May . . . watch for their fabulous cider to make a brief return at the beginning of the season. Seedling Fruit has been out of apples for a while, but still has cider, a variety of dried fruits (great in scones!) and fruit butters. Yum. And Earth First has cider (by the gallon only) made from their organic apples, and if you ask nicely they might still have some cooking apples.
