Hi everyone!
I'm trying out some container gardening this year on my small deck. It doesn't get a lot of sun, but I'm trying! Any advice on what varieties of produce may do best? I bought some seeds but I'm just not sure if they'll do anything. What have other people been successful with?

How much sun do you get, in terms of hours per day?

Actually, I have no idea… we moved into this apartment last summer and I haven't spent much time out there. Very minimal though, as the other buildings nearby block a lot of the afternoon sun. It's on the west side of the building on the first floor so it gets shaded easily I hope my containers aren't doomed!!

I think the key is to try a few things out and see what works. I don't think you'll have much success with things like tomatoes or peppers, but I'd try some lettuce, beans, maybe cabbage/kohlrabi. Also, roots or tubers might be successful too.
Best,
Michael

Best plants for container gardening are sage, rosemary, chives, dill, basil, and thyme. Last year I planted garlic and sesame and the result was pretty good. If you dwarf your rootstocks, you can easily grow apples in containers as well.
