Signs of Spring are in the air, woo hoo! One of them, my least favorite day of the year, spring ahead is this Sunday. However, a positive sign of Spring is that Prairie Fruit Farms in Champagne has already put up a schedule of the start of their farm dinners that include Sunday Dinner Club aka Honey Butter Fried Chicken folks and Chef Paul Virant and his merry band of chefs. Right now Prairie Fruits has an explosion of baby goats on the farm that you can visit with during their open house on March 19.

New!!! Slagel Family Farm Tour & Dinner Schedule out Band of Farmers, the Chicagoland CSA Coalition has a very active event calendar themselves. Spring Blooms Dinner with Chicago Women’s Brigade Stock Cafe  4/14 Dinner with Local Foods at Read It & Eat It:”The Chicago Homegrown Cookbook” 4/24 Rooftop Growing Guide Midwest Launch Local Foods

It’s March so that means its time for the Good Food Festival and next month the Illinois Stewardship Alliance’s Local Food Lobby is April 7. The Peterson Garden Project is brimming with classes, gardening ideas and resources, so is a great site to check out! The Garfield Park Conservatory has a whole host of programming on bee-keeping and composting. The Morton Arboretum has an Edible Gardening Series starting Saturday, March 19  and running for 5 weeks. Mint Creek Farm is trying to get the most out of their sheep and are considering offering natural tanning and leather-workshops. Take their survey here and give them your feedback. Learn how to forage with Chef Iliana Regan and her crew from Elizabeth restaurant.

A local cheese blog that points out the local cheesemakers to know, The Cheeseundergound, is sponsoring Cheesetopia at the Bridgeport Arts Center on Sunday April 10. The Talking Farm, which continues to expand their programming,  has their annual Spring Thaw celebration at Farmhouse in Evanston on April 17th. A happy thought to look forward to, the first of the outdoor markets open the week of May 8th, Mother’s Day.  Now onto the month ahead:
