We are in the mid-summer night’s dream of abundance at the markets. To quote Chad Nichols, “tomatoes are the new lettuce”. Yes, there is lettuce at the markets but tomatoes are abundant now, along with corn and oh, so many more vegetables and fruits. I haven’t visited Henry’s Farm’s wall of lettuces this year at the Evanston Farmers Market  but Growing Power’s baskets of pungent and not so pungent greens and edible flowers at the Green City Market works for me.

New events during the month or further elaboration on already listed events or markets will be posted in red, so recheck this calendar each week during the month.

You only have a few months left for farm dinners which are a great way to take a mini-vacation from the city. Slagel Family Farm’s next dinners are 8/15 with Oak & Char, 9/26 with Nightwood, Lula and Rootstock and 10/3 Osteria Via Stato and White Oak Tavern. Most of Prairie Fruit Farm’s dinners are sold out and I have not included them on the calendar. The ones they still have tickets for are: 9/26 For The Love of Cucurbits and dinners in October.
