Now is the time, if you haven’t already, to order your Thanksgiving turkey. The Butcher and Larder closed their orders for turkey as of 11/2. The Green City Market which was hopping last Saturday at the Peggy Notebaert Museum gives you three options, Meadow Haven Farm (certified organic), Mint Creek Farm(pasture-raised, free range, certified organic feed) or TJ’s Free Range Poultry. The Green Grocer Chicago is taking orders for Gunthorp Farms Turkey and you can watch a 4 min video here to learn about the farm and at 2:15 into it, you may find out one factoid about Charlie Trotter and part of the legacy he has left you might not have heard. Caveny Farms (you can place an order through the House of Glunz and pickup there) is offering heritage breed Bourbon Red turkeys(the picture above is from the Caveny website), Slagel Family Farms  and Wettsten Organic Farms. are other alternatives.

The Green City Market farmers had lots of produce: greens, pears, apples, squash, root vegetables on their tables. Lots of craft beer flowing in Bridgeport this weekend, a Mangalitsa pig roasted at Lula Cafe and more, onto the week ahead.

Chicago - NOMA Chef Makes One Day Only Appearance at Balena for a book signing and then dinner at The Bristol (Zagat) - The day begins at Balena with afternoon wine, some of Redzepi’s favorite dishes and a Q&A with the chef, moderated by Tasting Table’s Heather Sperling. They’ll discuss his new book, A Work in Progress. The festivities continue with a 10-course dinner at The Bristol, inspired by Noma and prepared by chef Chris Pandel. Tickets for the Q&A at Balena cost $135 (reserve online) and the dinner at The Bristol is $235 with an optional $75 wine pairing (call 773-862-5555 for reservations). Both events include a copy of Redzepi’s highly anticipated book.

Chicago – Lula Cafe Mangalitsa Pig Dinner to Benefit The Howard Center - Jason Hammel of Lula Cafe in Logan Square just announced  he is bringing Rob Levitt (Butcher and Larder), Cosmo Goss (Publican Quality Meats), Mark Steuer(Carriage House) into Lula Cafe for a five-course dinner revolving around the roasting of a Mangalitsa pig. The $95 price includes all drinks, a happy hour special, and benefits The Howard Center.

Evanston – Secret Society Bacchanalia – 6:30pm Found hosts a lustful plant-based party at the Charles Dawes House on the Lake in Evanston with One Part Plant’s Jessica Murnane. Indulge in a cornucopia of plant based nibbles filled with veggie delights and take in the art-filled space with relics of times past.
