It is that time of year where holiday markets start cropping up and it is an opportunity to shop local. The Artisan Market in Streeterville includes friend of The Beet’s Jo Sno Syrups, and Karl’s Craft Soups of The NOSH. If you can’t get to this market and you can’t get to The NOSH, Artizone Chicago offers and delivers these products as well along with organic produce and other vendors like Katherine Anne Confections. So there are many ways to go local as the weather gets colder.

Green Grocer Chicago gives you the option to hop into their Fall Produce Share program at anytime. Not all the produce they provide this time of year is necessarily local but it is always organic and local where possible. Some of the winter markets alternate weeks and this week the Glenwood Sunday Winter(although winter has not officially started yet) market takes place at The Glenwood Bar. If you didn’t have the time or space to put up tomatoes or pickle beets or carrots, vendors like Bushel & Peck at the Green City Market have done it for you and you can pick up some of their pickled produce at the Notebaert Nature museum this Saturday.

As Thanksgiving looms, there are local options, the Green Grocer is having their Turkey Day kick-off on Saturday from 3-6pm, taste Gunthorp turket, Koval whiskey and Cheap Tart bakery pies, SBK (Sauce and Bread Kitchen) has these T-day offerings. It may be cold but there is lots to do, shop, learn, eat, drink on the Local Calendar, onto the week ahead.

Branch They need your support to keep expanding our local foodshed so get tickets now to their amazing fundraiser dinner at Kendall College. The dinner will feature selections by Chrissy Camba (Bar Pastoral), Nicole Pederson (Found), Mindy Segal (Hot Chocolate), and Molly Johnson (Calihan Catering). Chicago – NOMA Chef Makes One Day Only Appearance at Balena for a book signing and then dinner at The Bristol (Zagat) - The day begins at Balena with afternoon wine, some of Redzepi’s favorite dishes and a Q&A with the chef, moderated by Tasting Table’s Heather Sperling. They’ll discuss his new book, A Work in Progress.
