The Local Calendar 10/3/12 Harvest Dinner Season, Hullabaloos in Evanston & Plenty of Indie Spirits
The Chicago Gourmet Festival was a raving success (here is a recap from our friends at The Chicagoist) last weekend thanks to the weather cooperating and including things like the roasting of a pig by The Purple Pig. Fall is in full swing at the markets, there still are a few tomatoes left at some of the stands but pumpkins, brussel sprouts and apples abound. Apples, like some of the other fruits, are not as abundant as past years because of the early frost, but one varietal I tried this week is the Macoun which I found crisp with a bit of a sour kick.
It is that time of year for Harvest Dinners so check the calendar, there are a ton of options and they all sound great! The Talking Farm in Evanston is having their second annual Hullabaloo to celebrate all that they have accomplished on the Howard Street Farm property, activities include marshmellow roasting! The Indie Spirits Expo is tonight, and many of our favorite local spirits makers will be there!! Now on to the calendar below!!
