The Local Calendar 8/17/12 Rain Doesn’t Make the Drought Issues Go Away

Although we have had some rain, the drought issues have not gone away though it is easy to think a little rain solves everything. Drought Aid for Harvest Moon Farms continues so they can get all their heirloom tomatoes to market, checkout The Last Drought Benefit featuring Mr. Blotto  at The Metro taking place this Thursday, August 23. It is beautiful weather for a farm dinner, City Provisions has their Q7 Ranch dinner tomorrow, and you don’t need to drive! Calling all Beetniks! Next week, Sunday August 26th is the 8th Annual Corks and Crayons event from 2-7pm for all ages at the Greenhouse Loft at the Green Exchange to benefit Purple Asparagus.  If for some reason you can’t make it, you can still support the organization by participating in the Corks and Crayons Online Auction that is open right now, go here to check out all the “local” items up for bid.

This weekend, if the Air and Water Show is not your thing, take advantage of the end of season warehouse sale for JDY Gourmet and food truck roundup this Sunday, from 11-2pm at 370 N. Carpenter St. Did I say “blowout” sale! After the JDY sale you can swing over to the Green Grocer for their annual BBQ, at 1402 West Grand(Grand and Noble) for only $10 you get BBQ, music and brews! The Congregation Band will be playing from 2-4pm! It is the countdown to the Chicago Gourmet Festival which is a month away as well!!

Lots to do, take advantage of all that summer brings before it is over!! On to the week ahead!

Chicago Ave. The farm is  a collaboration with Growing Power Chicago and is sponsored by Fourth Presbyterian Church. This is a free event and the food will be prepared by Eric Mansavage of Farmhouse Chicago. This is an all ages event and a way or people to find out more about what is going on at the farm.

This is a very unique market that really is a “must shop” and while supplies last Browntrout will be selling its pickled ramps with its “super secret” pickling liquid.
