Eat Local Asparagus Challenge, Days 5-6 – More Disputes
We have managed to eat asparagus for six straight days and argue about it most of the time. Earlier in the Challenge, we had to decide if leftovers could count towards the challenge. It was necessary to rule yes on that to avoid big pile-ups of food, as my wife is prone to excess when recipe-ing. A later dispute happened the other night when she brought out a side of asparagus baked with Parmesan cheese.
“Asparagus Milanese”, she said.
“No it’s not,” I retorted. “Asparagus Milanese was what we had the yesterday, with the fried eggs.”
Well, she was right in that the recipe she used, from no less an authority than Sheila Lukins, called the dish Asparagus Milanese. Good thing I was right or that could have been a tough one!
Getting back to the Challenge. Day Five was the above mentioned, wrongly labeled Asparagus Milanese, that is asparagus baked with plenty cheese. Day Six was a neat, new dish for us. On Sunday, while on Argyle Street, we picked up a package of won ton wrappers. It made it easy to make asparagus dumplings, with ricotta. After boiling said dumplings, we served them with a sauce of butter, asparagus tips and green garlic. No sauce leftovers as one daughter pretty much licked the pan clean.
