  2. Farmer Graff says:

Hey that’s great. We too are re opening our CSA shares, vegie and egg at Logan Square. Details at msorganicfarm.com under the info sheet for Logan Square!

  3. DB says:

The information on Fat Blossom is incorrect. They are no longer offering Flex Shares. I just called them to inquire and was disappointed!

    • Waeschlimann says:

DB – Thanks for the information about Fat Blossom; sorry to hear they’ve discontinued flex shares. Try Growing Power. Their CSA is similar to flex shares in that you place your order weekly and no commitment is required. Three sizes range in price from $9-$28.

  4. We have decided to start a CSA program as well, pickup points will be at the Homer Glen and Lockport farmers market this summer for 20 weeks, $600. Half shares available for $300. Home/business delivery available based upon location. Click on our name for more details.

  5. Katie says:

Earth Harvest Farm, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin is now offering a dropsite for our Certified Naturally Grown veggie CSA in Mundelein for those of you in the NW suburbs.
Visit our website for more information. We’re looking forward to expanding our market to the Chicago area!

  6. Janet Gamble says:

    Hello –
Turtle Creek Gardens is growing this year at Michael Fields Agricultural Institute in East Troy, with CSA farmer’s style pick-ups at Michael Fields and in Delavan. We offer CSA shares for vegetables and some fruits, with separate access to organic grass-fed beef, pastured poultry, and eggs. Our vegetables and fruits are grown using biodynamic and organic methods. Our Full shares are $550 for 20-weeks or $325 for 10 Every-Other-Week shares, beginning June 3 and ending Oct 14. We also offer a 4 week Winter Share for November-December. See our listing at http://www.localharvest.org/farms/M34583. thanks.

  7. Brad Moldofsky says:

Joanne Wiedemann-Wolf of CRAFT is looking for a CSA that delivers to Elkhorn, Wisconsin. If somebody’s CSA does this and has CSA shares available, let her know so she can forward your information to some potential customers.

    Joanne’s number is 815 389-8455. Her e-mail is joanne@learngrowconnect.org.

  8. New CSA pickup site added!

Tomato Mountain Farm’s certified organic CSA will be delivered for pickup at the new Norwood Park Farmers Market, Tuesdays 3:30 to 7:30pm, right at the Metra stop. Pick up on your way home, shop the market for extras . . . what could be more convenient?

Small and large boxes available, with big early payment discount (11% off) for the full 30-week season expiring April 1. Go to http://www.tomatomountain.com for full details.

  9. Deb Hansen says:

Hi everyone! A little clarification on the Simply Wisconsin CSA listing since it seems to be incomplete with the wrong web link. We have sites available in Chicago proper, Chicago suburbs (Evanston, Prospect Heights, Northbrook, Lake Bluff, Highland Park, Grayslake, Rochelle, and western suburbs – Western Springs and Orland Park.

We offer three different organic produce shares, organic egg shares, organic and/or rBGH free cheese shares, organic and natural meat shares, and preserve shares during our 18 week summer season and 6-week winter season.

We are no longer connected with Home Grown Wisconsin but work with most of their farmers plus another 20-30 farms in Wisconsin. For more information, our accurate web information is http://www.simplywi.com.

We’d love to have you join us this season, but spots are filling up fast!

    Deb Hansen
    Simply Wisconsin

  10. Deb Hansen says:

Sorry, one more thing – Simply Wisconsin CSA offers a Wellness Rebate to our CSA members in Illinois who purchase any produce share by April 15, 2010 – $25 for individual insureds; $50 for family insureds. See our website for more details. http://www.simplywi.com.

    Thanks!

  11. We’re delighted to be included on the Local Beet but want to make sure that readers know we have an established CSA that delivers to the Evanston/Skokie/Wilmette area and are in our 3rd year. We have shares available for fruits, vegetables and herbs, offer an egg share to all CSA members, a cut flower share is also available. We also customize our boxes for those who wish to add organic chicken or beef! Shares are still available for the 2010 season. So if you’re hungry for farm fresh organic produce, give us a call!

  12. Sydney says:

Just a little clarification on Chicago Honey Co-op. We have dropped Oak Park from our market schedule. Thanks so much for adding us to this great resource!

  13. Becky Stark says:

Midnight Sun Organic Farm, operating out of Grayslake, IL, will be offering a CSA program for 2010 with pickups at the Glenwood Sunday Market in Rogers Park and on-farm. Shares will start in early June and will run for 20 weeks (through mid-October), and will cost $550 for a full share, $325 for a half-share.

We’re excited to make organic, locally grown veggies and free-range, organic eggs available to folks in the Chicago area. Please check us out at http://www.midnightsunorganics.com!

  14. Megan Bhatia says:

Thanks for all of the great info! I am so excited…I just signed up for my first CSA with Fat Blossom. I will definitely update with another posting mid-summer with my thoughts.

Thanks again for putting all of this helpful info together!

    Megan

  15. Lori says:

just wondering if any of the csa’s servicing chicago also have organic milk as an option thanks
    lori

    • Waeschlimann says:

Lori – Unfortunately, I don’t recall coming across a CSA that includes milk as an option. If anyone else knows of one, please post here for Lori!

  16. Christine says:

I am new to CSA and in need of some helpful tips. I am looking for a program that offers smaller shares (feeding household of 1-2 most of the time) of fruits and vegetables. I live in the Chicago downtown south loop area however if need be can go to pick up at Green City easily. Does anyone have any particular CSA they would recommend for my needs? Any similar recs for meats/poultry? Thanks!

    • Waeschlimann says:

      Christine-

Delivery to the South Loop seems to be a problem, for some unknown reason. But, if you’re willing to pickup @ the Green City Market, or even downtown, there are some options for smaller households such as yours.

You can do a weekly medium share (2-3 ppl/20% larger than grocery bag) with Genesis Growers if you pick up at either the Downtown Farmstand or the Green City Market.

For pickup only at the Green City Market, you can subscribe to Iron Creek, which has a standard share (about 1 grocery bag), or Sweet Earth, which has a “Partial” share (1/2 bushel, smaller than a produce box). For meat, I suggest Mint Creek for pickup at the Green City Market, which offers a monthly 5 lb. share that might suit a smaller household.

Please check with the farms directly for share availability (some may have sold out) or for more details, as their CSA plans may have changed slightly since our last printing.

    • Robin says:

Tomato Mountain Farm will deliver to your home and offers a small share. We just had our 4th and final week of organic strawberries, but this week also included our candy-sweet sun gold tomatoes, which will make a generous appearance nearly every week for the rest of the summer. We’ll have watermelon later in the summer and hope to include raspberries in the fall.
