Ma Louisianne Fundraiser Saturday – 9/12

September 9, 2009 at 2:41 pm

I was contacted about a fundraiser for the Big Easy Fundraiser Party that will occur this weekend, but through the magic of spam filters, I never really realized what was happening.  Well, in the spirit of better late than never, please be aware of this great event, and if you can, attend the fundraiser this weekend.  They say, “If you’d like to attend the fundraiser contact Gaylon at, and he’ll forward an invitation.”

Ma Louisianne is working on a documentary on southern Louisiana.  In their words:

“Ma Louisianne is an exploration of the land, water and people who are the roots of Cajun and Creole cuisine. We’re going to be using food as a way to look at culture and environment. Although I know that the people of the area are very resilient and have returned to the land and rebuilt again and again, there come a time when there is little or no land to return to. If the land is gone and its people scattered, how long will the culture be able to continue?

We were recommended for full funding by the grants panel of the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities but their budget was slashed and they don’t have a dime to give us.

So while we continue to write grants, we’re holding a fundraising party for the documentary at 7 PM on September 12 in Highland Park, IL. We’re cooking up big pots of steaming gumbo – 4 kinds in fact, red beans and rice, bread pudding with bourbon sauce. Abita beer and Sazerac cocktails will be served.

Much more can be found at their web site.

Gaylon is a she, not a he – though it is an ambiguous name. I will be attending the event as Gaylon’s a good friend of mine and SHE is the producer of Spatulatta!
