If you haven’t yet filled your own backyard garden with seedlings, you have an opportunity this week to pick up some interesting plants. Slow Food Chicago, Candid Wines, and the Chicago Honey Co-Op are holding Tomato Fest 2009. There are two upcoming plant sales where you will be able to buy heirloom tomato seedlings for $3 (proceeds benefiting Slow Food): May 27th, 4pm-7pm at The Garfield Park Conservatory and June 5th, 4pm-8pm at Uncommon Ground on Devon.

Everyone who purchases a plant will be invited to the Tomato Fest at the Chicago Honey Co-Op to share their harvest with other gardeners. Our own Backyard Farmer, Brad Moldofsky, will be growing a couple plants and sharing his progress with you on The Local Beet.
