Is There Such a Thing as Too Much Local Food

The Local Family is over-flowing with local food.  We have a surfeit of local food.  Our eat local challenge stands, not finding local food, but in eating all of our local food.  It’s not all my fault, really! 

Sure, I graciously said yes when a friend offered me his CSA box because he was away on business.  Sure, I had to buy from all the nice sellers at Detroit’s Eastern Market.  We had to stop at the fruit stand in Albion, Michigan even if we had stopped at the stand at the stand in Coloma a few days earlier.  Sure, sure, but it’s not all my fault.  Farmer Vicki’s Genesis Growers puts a lot in their CSA box around now.  Let me tell you what we have now (see here for what we had last).

  • Baby pears (grown in Detroit!)

  • Lemon verbena
  • Potatoes (many)
  • Hot peppers
  • Cilantro with their roots (the roots for Thai marinades)
  • Cherry juice
  • Carrots
  • Dried beans
  • Shallots
  • Onions including cippolini
