I have a 7 cubic foot frigidaire chest freezer and it was rated at $26/year to operate. It is at it's most efficient when it's full, so it's best to put jugs of water in there if it's not full.

How much would you say that an extra freezer costs in terms of your electric bill? Thanks!

Suzy, keep on working on Randy! We really have found little quality loss in our freezer meat. Steaks have grilled up with a nice char even though the word on the street is that frozen meat will not do that. At some point, I'd like to do some kinda experiment to compare.

To me, the biggest hassle is that the meat is never ready when you exactly need it; that so much has to be planned in advance.

I'm having a difficult time convincing my husband that freezing local meat is the way to go. He would rather pick up fresh meat, not necessarily local, at the store because he thinks it tastes much better. We did pick up some frozen local pork chops from Moore Family Farm at the Frankfort Market. They were quite tasty.
